Into the Water

Baptizo: Greek word meaning to make whelmed (ie. fully wet) ... especially of the ordinance of Christian baptism. Strong`s Concordance

In Acts 8: 26-39 is the story of the evangelist Philip telling the good news of Jesus to an Ethiopian eunuch. Philip met up with this man while he was reading a passage from Isaiah. The Ethiopian wanted these words explained to him. Philip did so adding the plan of salvation to his teaching:

  • v36 And as they went along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "See, here is water! What is to prevent my being baptized?"
  • v37 And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he replied, " I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
  • v38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch , and he baptized him.
  • v39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught up Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more...
